@bantermelon yeah, who gives a fuck about afghans, right?

wow saddest thin I've seen. Just shows you what some American and British families (with other allies) have had to endure.

One of the saddest scenes in recent film history. Susan Sarandon's ability to act without words is really incredible here: the way she initially jerks backwards in shock, and then scans the room with her eyes in confusion at the sight of the charred remains of her son is easily some of the most genuine acting I've ever seen. "Is that everything? ...Is that all of him?" The fact that a mother would ever have to ask that of her child is truly heartbreaking. Great film.

what is perhaps the most intense part of that scene is Jones' silence and...empty look on his face throughout the whole scene, and the look on Sarandon's face when he says My sympathies.

@JonBoo418 I rather enjoyed it as well. The academy is full of those who are afraid to nominate films with political messages. great performances.

I'm also an aussie and echo your comments entirely! Aboslutely love this moving film, this particular scene really got to me.

ok...I just saw this film on HBO over the weekend and I was just floored. This movie was outstanding. I'm clueless as to why people thought this was 'Anti-american', which was far from. I thought this movie brought attention to the countless of veterans who struggle and go through PTSD....The ending was symbolism at it's best, in regards to people struggling with PTSD. 6 stars.....

TTT
The fact that this film wasn't nominated for Best Picture and that Tommy Lee Jones did not win Best Actor, and that Susan Sarandon didn't even have a nomination for Best Supporting Actress proves that the Academy is afraid to stand up and make any form of political point whatsoever. This was THE best film with THE best performances of last year. Period.

This film was one of the most powerful films I have seen in a long time. Such strong performances by Jones, Sarandon and a surprisingly intense performance by Charlize Theron. I live in Australia but was devastated by the truth behind this film. Also, I just have to say that Susan Sarandon, although her part was small, she shone for me. Amazing portrayal. She really deserves an oscar nom and win for this too !!!
