To all you whiners out there: yes this is different from the album version. If you like the album version better, listen to it instead. To me, the reason why Tom is great is because of his ability to breathe new life into songs you've heard a million times. This version is a perfect example.
Why would anyone complain about that?

This is brilliant...
But, perhaps, not to the kiddies who need to grow up...
Maybe they will appreciate in 30 years...
When they can appreciate that Bob Hughart on bass played with Miles Davis in the 50s?
Perhaps not!!

Get a grip, kids, this was 1977 and the equivalent of a 1959 video of Brubeck or the quintessential tube of Sonny Rollin's St Thomas. I'm a few years younger than Mr. Waits and I've been playing music since I was a wee lad. Tom knows how to swing it , and that's a dying art. Listen carefully to this and the to the original and you'll begin to understand evolution, emotion, life, and soul. Cheers, brothers and sisters.

Yeah!! Now that you say it, really sounds very similar. They both are wonderful!!!

how is this embaressing? if you were a singer would you like to play the song the same way over and over again? his style is a rambling style he could be drunk or he could be on nothing at all
