Easy method on how to fix the red ring of death on the xbox 360:

first before trying this method check if you have any dust or grit in the hard drive as that could cause 1 red ring. if u do, remove it. reason being i once went to a friends house with my xbox and but the hard drive in my bag, i got home, put the hard drive into my xbox and got the e73 error. it turned out the only reason i got it was because i had some grit stuck in the hard drives bit that connects the xbox from my bag. i removed it and then it was fine. no red ring.

however if that isnt the case, then follow these steps

1. turn xbox off.

2. insert two thin objects that are long enough to reach the fans at the back and stop them moving.

3. turn xbox on. make sure the fans aren't moving. wait 10 - 15 mins maybe less.

4. you will get two red rings. turn xbox off by removing plugs at the back, then remove the items that were used to jam both the fans.

5. put plugs back in, and turn the xbox on.

6. you will probably get the 1 red ring back (i didn't in this case for some reason), keep turning it off and on until the xbox finally starts working again :)

7. mission accomplished!

P.S. THIS IS TEMPORARY, YOU WILL GET THE RROD AGAIN, BUT JUST KEEP DOING THIS AND IT WILL STILL WORK EACH TIME.

i hold no liability to anyone who breaks their xbox whilst trying this method. if all done correctly you should be fine. this is 90% guarantee. if it eventually stops working completely. just hand it in to Microsoft and they'll sort it out for you, this just prolongs the time till it dies somewhat.

this only works for the 1 red ring/ e73 error.

  • This doesnt fix it permanently, in the long run it screws your xbox up even more

  • @xAdaaMz

your console is pretty much fucked anyway, at least this is temporary. if not satisfied simply send it off to get fixed...

  • you're a genius, JAMamation!

  • @TheDavidd305

thankyou david ^__^ glad i could help.

  • You may want to consider reflowing the motherboard's chips. It's simple to do and means you don't have to keep blocking the fans and waiting 10 minutes every time you want to play a game.

  • @yaxxee

would you kindly explain what 'reflowing the motherboard chips' means for anyone who speaks english, thx.

  • @JAMamation True. But if your warranty has ran out like mine, you may as well try taking it apart to try and fix it before you completely fuck it up. If not just buy a new one.

  • i got my xbox with the 3 rings of death, i did the xclamp repair it ran for about 15 mins then got thew E73 error, i have tried this method but it doesnt work.

it takes about 5-7mins to overheat and i do what the video says but alas it doesnt work. do you know of any other way that might fix this other than reflowin/reballing the board as i cant afford to do it.

    any advise is appreciated!

  • It involves using a heat gun on the gpu, ram, etc. It repairs cold solder joints, which is often a cause of e73/e74 errors. It worked for me. Check out the guides available on YouTube & Google, and best of luck if you try it out.

  • I did 1 and 2 and it's working
