  • I couldn't stand the "nighttime version" of the Price is Right..

    1) It was only 30 minutes,

    2) There was no Showcase "Showdown", so no one got to spin the wheel, and

    3) of course, no Bob Barker..thats like having the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger or Keith Richards!

  • I never agreed with the "gotta have Bob" line of thinking, but you touched on something with the lack of Showcase Showdown and the 30-minute slot. I think the problem with nighttime versions of TPIR after the daytime expansion is that they just naturally looked inferior as a result.

  • you have to remember, though, that Bob Barker is maybe the greatest game show host ever, so the nighttime version show was already doomed.....its no wonder the show didnt last long.

But here is what i want to know: On the nighttime version, If all 3 contestants won their pricing games, then how did the show determine which 2 contestants met in the "showcase?"

Tom Kennedy was a fine host, but was more geared toward :"Name that Tune"....The Price is Right....not so much.

  • Same rules as Bob's 30-minute version. The two players who won the most went to the Showcase.

  • 4 digits in the price of the car..(sigh)...

  • @disneyfan81 never saw or heard of Dennis James, so i cannot really comment.

All i know is having a 30 minute price is right with no showcase showdown was ridiculous. When i think of Tom Kennedy, i think of Name that Tune before anything else.

  • @TheOusooner56 But how would you compare Tom Kennedy with Dennis James (he hosted the original night- time "Price", because Bob was still hosting "Truth or Consequences" in first-run syndication)?

  • @headphone355 it wasnt a horrible show...but the show had no showcase showdowns (the wheel) and was only 30 minutes long....tom kennedy wasnt terrible but that show was Bob Barker's....not the same without him

  • @TheOusooner56 I kinda loved the nighttime version. I remember seeing reruns of it when I holidayed in Malaysia in the '90s.

  • @mbrooks415 I agree with you i wish we had a host like Tom today to take over Bob spot when he retired instead of Drew.

  • @ClapHurts Poor Tom. He did a really, really good job on this show, but most people just saw someone other than Bob and tuned TK out.

  • @TheOusooner56 Tom Kennedy held the show down well it made you forget that Bob Barker hosted the show

  • that lady is hawt.

  • I believe kids have a '6th sense' about culture and trends...that being said...I remember watching this as a kid, and comparing Tom Kennedy to Bob Barker, and saying 'this isn't gonna last'. I won't toot my own horn but I guess I was right.
