This is a clip of my motor warming up on the dyno at Kell's Automotive in Las Vegas. The motor is the original 340 out of my 1973 Dodge Charger. The motor has a stock resto 340 steel crank, fluidampr balancer, Crane retrofit hydraulic roller cam (509/528 lift, 284/292 duration), 9.5:1 compression, .040 overbore, Eagle H-beam rods, 7 quart Milodon Pan, full groove main bearings, high volume oil pump, and Barry Grant Demon carb. It ran great on 91 octane pump gas, and even idled fine at 600 RPM (will be set to about 900 since it will have an automatic transmission).

  • Nice :)

  • sucks that you have a post 71 340.. prety much a smog motor, if i were you i would put on some high flow heads, dual plane intake and bump the compression up to 10.5:1

then you would have one hell of a motor!

  • Thanks for the comment. The motor has X heads with hard seats, but I would like to put CNC ported Eddy heads on it at some point. It made 399 hp on the dyno when running with a borrowed 850 demon (was shooting for 400), but it it was just over 380 with the 670 Holly street avenger it will be running on the street.

  • @krisanddebra You get ready to sell those 340 heads let me know first!!!!!!!!!! wish the video was a bit longer and coulda watched it pull, Curt

  • @PerryDubya it was 72 when they started it all

  • beautiful, id save the x heads though, just cuz they r valuable, especially if this motor cme with that car you are putting it in.

  • Personally if i were running a street car i wouldnt port it out, i would only port it to match the gaskets or vice versa.

One of thiese days were gonna make our 340 from our 69 Cuda inta a roller motor. Roller Cam, Roller Lifters, Roller Rockers.. aluminum heads. Ohhh yeahhh :)
