Silicon polymer development was pioneered by the British chemist Frederick Kipping, working at Nottingham's University College, 1897-1936; he coined the name "silicone". Most bras I've had the privilege of working with have been the hook and eye variety. But there are pullovers too that are supposed to be real comfy and supportive. No underwires either

Mine says YKK too. Didn't they call it or market it as the "buttonless fastener" as well? Ms. Hotforwords didn't completely explain the origin of the word, however. I think it originates from the sound it makes when opening or closing: zzzzzzzzzip. Another clear cut case of onomatopoeia! Ahem. Burp. Whoosh!
