One more thing haha sorry Joe for commenting so much I just saw this and wanted to add. If you read the rest of what Jesus was saying in Matthew 12 youll see this "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him." "will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken? But with all this said I hope I did not take anything u guys said out of context thanks and God bless
Also a few scripture references Id like to throw out there. First the description of this video is Christ-Like. Look up Phil. 2 please Tommy. Jesus did name call but as Joe and I have both already pointed out understand the background pls. Also Romans 2:1. And 2 Corinthians 3:17 If you judge you are a hypocrite and not going in turn with being Christ Like and if you are Christ Like then you have Christ with you and by calling names as I saw in this vid you are not showing freedom. 2 Corinth 3:17
I would like to add to this if I may. First I dont know the original arguments as I cant watch what this video was a response to for some reason. But I will say this. Joe is very right. A lot of things are said in the Bible that if you dont understand who they were being said to and what was going on then you may not get the point of what is meant.
Tommy, the point is that Jesus holds the church to a much higher standard than non-believers as far as their representation of the church goes. He name called those who were oppressing those who were already oppressed, thus his name calling was indeed an act of compassion. Yours however, is not.
Do you recall whom Jesus was speaking to? He was speaking to those in the church who saw themselves as better than the rest of the world. He was speaking to the self righteous pharisees. He was speaking to you.
I would tend to agree with you here. I think it's important to not that the purpose of the church isn't intellectual training. And anyone who seeks such training from the church is not going to find it. I was speaking only to my theological training. My intellectual training comes from my university.
I would tend to agree with you here. I should point out though that my intellect has not been trained in the church. It has been trained in the university, so other than that, I fail to see your point.

First, that's a dodge. You said name-calling shows a lack of compassion. Jesus name-called. Therefore, you are wrong.
Second, um, what? Where did I claim to be "holier than thou"? I'm right, and the atheists are wrong. They are blind, and are suppressing the truth.

So Jesus wasn't compassionate?
(Matthew 23:33) You serpents, you brood of vipers
(Matthew 23:17) You blind fools!

Tommy, you're delusional if you think name-calling doesn't show a lack of compassion.
