This is a fish wheel in the Copper River in Alaska. The wheel is used for subsistance fishermen who are residents of Alaska.
The wheel works by spinning in the current, propelled by the water and scooping up the salmon and dropping them into the box you see in the front. Then you simply get your salmon out of the box and clean your dinner.
