An innovative and highly creative flamenco group in Sydney, Australia, called Flamenco Dreaming, featured not just Sevillanas and Bulerias but also Aboriginal singing and dancing to create unique rhythms and a magical fusion of cultures. The group made a lasting impression - so much so, it was in the running to help open the 2000 Olympic Games.
This video was recorded in April 1996, in the Cat and Fiddle pub in Balmain, an inner Sydney suburb. Performers are:
Aboriginal dancer: - Sean Choolburra
Flamenco Dancers: - Veronica Gillmer (featured in this video edit of the longer show) Elena Varga, Susan Lord, Dean Watson
Flamenco Singer: Rafael Alcolea
Flamenco Guitarist: Robbie Varga
Percussionist: Peter Kennard
Tenor Sax: Kim Sanders
Palmas and a didgeridoo? Not duende in its classic sense, perhaps, but an exciting combination - once seen, once heard, never forgotten
Definitely a didg in there - It was a young William Barton fresh from Mt Isa before he crossed paths with composer Peter Sculthorpe and became one of the most lauded didg players in the country (deservedly). peterk (percussionist)

Awesome! I loved the aboriginal dance to the flamenco music. It fit so well which really surprised me. Love it.
