ARhrrrr is an augmented reality shooter for mobile camera-phones, created at Georgia Tech Augmented Environments Lab and the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD-Atlanta). The phone provides a window into a 3d town overrun with zombies. Point the camera at our special game map to mix virtual and real world content. Civilians are trapped in the town, and must escape before the zombies eat them! From your vantage point in a helicopter overhead, you must shoot the zombies to clear the path for the civilians to get out. Watch out though as the zombies will fight back, throwing bloody organs to bring down your copter. Move the phone quickly to dodge them. You can also use Skittles as tangible inputs to the game, placing one on the board and shooting it to trigger an explosion.
One of the inspirations for this game was the game Joe Warpin, from our Handheld Augmented Reality games class (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62cbXp... ).

If only that were true, perhaps we could have gotten some funding from them!

It does have a way to go to make it a "real" game, I'd agree. We have (plenty of) ideas on how that could be done (as many of you probably do too), but no time or funding to do it!

Civilians don't look very different from the zombies.

Thanks! We have a bunch of youtube videos on it (search for nerdherder on youtube) but there hasn't been a lot of uptake (sad). We got lucking with ARhrrrr (it got picked up and shared) but for some reason, not so with Nerdherder. Please share and point people at it!

It's free and there aren't even adverts in.. awesome job man.... you have to release more games this kind, I'm sure people will like it :D (Sorry for my englisch if it was bad xD )

Our group has built tons of prototypes after ARhrrrr! ... and we did release one as a full game. Check out "Nerdherder" (on Google Play and iTunes for iOS). It's not zombies, but it uses the same physical motion for game control. It's free, and we'd love to hear what you think.

Alas, nowhere. It was built for NVidia's custom Tegra prototype, way back before Tegra was released. Programmed with all custom code on top of Windows CE! (ick). Would love to redo it on Android or iOS, just haven't had the time.

I'm not sure if this particular game would work well that way, but the "first person AR zombie shooter" would be fun; hard to imagine the tech getting to the point we could do that, but if you google around some folks have tried to do it.
