COVINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) -- A decision by owners of a local business ignites a firestorm of outrage on social media. A mural recently painted on the side of the Cork 'N Bottle on Crescent Avenue in Covington is painted over.Fans of the artwork have flocked to the liquor store's Facebook page demanding answers. Local 12's Adam Clements has the store's explanation posted to the store's Facebook page. The reasons for this are that the contract to have it painted was unauthorized and the image was an infringement on the Maker's Mark trademarked bottle image.Let's take you back to August. Covington-based marketing group BLDG flies in the popular graffiti artist group The London Police to paint murals on the sides of various buildings as a part of an artistic revival in Covington. One of the owners of BLDG, Mike Amann, was the one who led the project. This past Sunday, Amann passed away of cancer. Then on Monday, the mural on the side of the liquor store was painted over.It has caused an uproar on social media sites, particularly Cork 'N Bottle's Facebook page. It has also brought outrage to those still mourning the death of Mike Amann. His business partners say the contract clearly stated the artwork was to stay visible for at least one year. Right now they are confused by the stance taken by the Covington liquor store.Local 12 did reach out to Cork 'N Bottle, but our calls were not returned. Its Facebook page does indicate that it plans to put up different artwork sometime in the future. As for any legal action that may be taken by BLDG, they say right now they are discussing that at this time.
