New Year's 2011 Celebrations Begin Across the Globe

Even though Americans still have several hours until 2011 officially begins, other countries across the world have already welcomed the new year. In Australia, more than one million people watched a 12-minute fireworks display over Sydney Harbor. Tens of thousands in Auckland, New Zealand were among the first to ring in 2011, while revelers in Tokyo released silver balloons filled with notes into the night sky. Around one million people are also expected to converge on New York City for the annual Time Square ball drop.
