The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
the darkness falls at thy behest;
to thee our morning hymns ascended,
thy praise shall sanctify our rest.

We thank thee that thy Church, unsleeping
while earth rolls onward into light,
through all the world her watch is keeping

As o'er each continent and island
the dawn leads on another day,

How wonderful I am at such a low ebb, when I sing this Hymn my heart is pleased I know that at the end, when my Sunset comes, I will be in paradise.

Appreciate the beauty of the words and the music; appreciate the concept rather than the detail. The establishment of the church, the denominations, are but minor diversions. It is but human goodness that counts.

@Undergottensnotten It's people like you that make others not to go to church. Your judgemental attitude and self serving comments make me puke. If anyone goes to any denominational church be it J.W.'s, Evangelical, Methodist, Catholic or Mormon, my admiration to them for they are giving praise to the Lord. Don't try to judge other for that is the dominion of the Lord!

This lovely hymn reminds us that the sun is forever waking "fresh lips" to sound forth praise and petition to Him who never sleeps, and is blessed by the constant flow of worship and adoration rising up from the faithful be they monastic communities, heads of state or the the unassuming worker or housewife.

@landsell The Roman Catholic Church has clearly descended into apostasy. The Mormons are dangerous heretics. Most of the American fundamentalist churchs are pretty obviously evil. The Methodist church is completely lost, doesn't know what day of the week it is, and the Anglican Communion is rapidly following. Thankfully there are plenty of priests and ministers left in all of these that actually believe and follow the way of Christ.

It's a pity or is it? that the age of the Church has ended, at least the Church Establishment. Completely gone the way of Satan, from the largest to the smallest. The Christians are going underground, either in mass graves or in hiding.

My school pipe band plays this with the organ and vocalist at the annual end of year prize giving. Brings tears to many eyes to hear this played on the pipes
