The Taylors Checkerspot is a rare endangered butterfly that we have in abundance here on the farm.
They are around for a few weeks every year, usually starting mid may to mid June depending on weather. Our free ranging horses and open pastures (that are unfertilized) give them a perfect environment in which to thrive. They used to be all over the US and Canada, but now are confined to just a few locations (very few). Their decline is directly attributed to loss of habitat and we here are doing what we can to manage our space to ensure they continue to have theirs.
This video from May 25th 2007 is the only video I know of where this species is show mating.
