3-year-old filly I am starting under saddle (1st ride also uploaded). This is her 7th ride.

Her 2nd ride she walk and trotted off my aids (rider) without ground help. She is a very quick learner and seems to gain more confidence with the rider rather than without.

This ride we started with a little walk and trot in the round pen. After that we walked out to the big field. (which she calmly stands to allow me to open the gate) I did speed up the walking out as my poor boyfriend who was videoing was having to follow with the camera and tripod. She has only been ridden out once before and just walking. So, we walked around for a bit before going for a bit of trot. (which it the cut, one can watch only so much walking).

I did not ask her to make circles. She only knows circles because of the roundpen, so she went to making them. As she got a bit more comfortable I got her to go out a bit more. All her tentative steps are trying to figure out what to do and where to go. When we walked again she seemed even more confident and relaxed.

  • What a beautiful filly! And a very good girl too! You are a great rider! I want SO badly to start a young horse under saddle! But we don't have a barn, room left in our paddock, a riding ring, or a money to board...plus my riding instructor would KILL me! lol.

  • What a little springy girl! I would love to see her being free-lunged. She listens to you so well and waits for your cues, you can tell. HPG's boyfriend should know that my husband had to go through the same "torture" and to watch where his feet are going =P
