Zappa was awesome, funny as hell, and enlightened as to what's wrong with the government. Wished he'd been around long enough to finish his bid for the presidency. I would've voted for him.

A great counter-cultural mind. Shame his works are not played by bands today, but people wanted melody and something solid. Zappa was trying to be an EU composer; didn't work.

This is a fabulous time capsule of ideas and preconceptions juxtaposed with Zappa's irreverent attitude toward the dark business of mass media spawned public opinion. Nesmith was the closest thing that the Monkees had to topical creativity and this collaboration with Zappa is a more or less credible attempt to cross the gap between the "Pop" culture of the times and its slender group of issue-obsessed artistic intellectuals.
