Atatürk translates to 'Father of the Turks' or 'Father Turk'

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (indeterminate, 1881--10 November 1938) was an Turkish army officer, revolutionary statesman, writer, and the first President of Turkey. He is credited with being the founder of the modern Turkish state.

Atatürk was a military officer during World War I. Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, he led the Turkish national movement in the Turkish War of Independence. Having established a provisional government in Ankara, he defeated the forces sent by the Allies. His military campaigns gained Turkey independence. Atatürk then embarked upon a program of political, economic, and cultural reforms, seeking to transform the former Ottoman Empire into a modern, westernized and secular nation-state. The principles of Atatürk's reforms, upon which modern Turkey was established, are referred to as Kemalism.

I am a Westerner from Canada and I know Ataturk to be a great man....I hope deeply that Turkey will not let the Islamists overthrow his ideas that helped make Turkey modern and peaceful......I wish Turkey well and admire the great Kemal Ataturk!

Turkey is a military controlled nationalistic government that drowns itself in race based myth. Funny thing is there is no such thing as a "Turk" beyond citizenship. "Contrary to nationalist dogma, studies of population genetics have indicated that the modern Anatolian Turks are prevalently descended from indigenous (pre-Islamic) Anatolian populations." Race has been proven to be myth by DNA testing. That's why the Turkish government will not allow free and open DNA testing in Anatolia.
