Here is an IBM Selectric II typewriter that has something wrong with the drive assembly. I am not sure what it is, any help is welcome.

  • sounds like it sucked up a cycle clutch!

  • The noise you hear is are the clutch pawls sliping on the belt pulley. The belt pulley can't turn because the machine is bound up or many buttons were pushed with it turned off. Unplug the machine, turn on the power switch and try to rotatup the print shaft (the shaft that goes through the carrier (the part that contains the typehead)) top to rear. It may complete all the functions (buttons) you've pushed. If it won't turn at all, you need further help.

  • Sounds like the belt is messed up.
