The first in a projected trilogy by the Greek director Theo Angelopoulos, "The Weeping Meadow" tells the story of Greek history from the close of World War I to the aftermath of World War II, not in broad, historic strokes, but through the sufferings of one emblematic, almost mythical family. But history is not the final point. This film contains scenes of striking beauty and poetry such as I have hardly ever seen. One wonders over and over how these scenes were created and photographed. It is awe inspiring.
The music is by Angelopoulos' long time collaborator, Eleni Karaindrou. Her music is not a background accompaniment, but a dramatic element, a living component of the story, an actor adding some words that had not been spoken.
At nearly three hours, this is not a film for the impatient entertainment-seeker. But for those willing to enter into its grave, melancholic rhythms, "The Weeping Meadow" is a beautiful and devastating meditation on war, history and loss. Dana Stevens, The New York Times
"The Weeping Meadow" won the European Film Academy Critics Award Prix FIPRESCI, in 2004.

ΣΑΣ ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΟΥΜΕ για όλα! Καλό ταξίδι!
Theo Angelopoulos's latest film, The Other Sea, was to be about Greece's financial crisis. It was supposed to be the last part of his trilogy.
2004: The Weeping Meadow
2008: The Dust of Time
2012: An accident during the filming and his unfinished trilogy... R.I.P.
