City of Bhangra 2011 - 30 Second Promo (English)

VIBC's City of Bhangra 2011 presents 9 days of drums, dance and discussion from May 4th to 14th. Enjoy a broad range of talent spanning from folk music to rock-inspired bands, Bhangra sounds from the UK to Finland, and dancers from all over North America. Events are ticketed and free to the public.

* Opening Reception
When: Wednesday, May 4 -- 6pm

Celebrate the opening of the much anticipated nine-day City of Bhangra Festival.


* rePercussion
When: Thursday, May 5 -- 7:30pm
Location: Fei & Milton Wong Experiment Theatre, Woodward's

What happens when the drums of the world come together? See it live on stage as we present the percussive forms from Vancouver's diverse communities.


* Curating & Creating Memory Symposium
When: Saturday, May 7 - 10am to 4pm
Location: Museum of Vancouver

An informative, interactive forum that discusses the issues around culture, identity and politics faced by many emerging Canadian South Asians.


* bhangra.me: Night at the Museum
When: Thursday, May 12 -- 8pm
Location: Museum of Vancouver"bhangra.me: Vancouver's Bhangra Story," is a six-month exhibition produced in partnership with the Museum of Vancouver.
On this night, we unveil the exhibit to performers and participants of Vancouver's Bhangra community.


* Downtown Bhangra
When: Friday, May 13 -- 5pm to 10pm
Location: Vancouver Art Gallery Grounds (Georgia and Howe)

* Coast Capital Bhangra Competition
When: Saturday, May 14 -- 6:30pm to 9:30pm (Doors at 5:30pm)
Location: Queen Elizabeth Theatre, 649 Cambie St., Vancouver

Ranked as one of the top three most prominent competitive Bhangra events in North America, thousands will pack the seats at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre to watch international Bhangra teams from South Carolina, Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, Abbotsford, Surrey and Vancouver fighting for $10,000 in prizes.


* City of Bhangra Wrap Party
When: Saturday, May 14 -- 9pm to 2am
Location: Gossip Nightclub, Plaza of Nations
