Tangkahan is situated in North Sumatra. The local community operates eco-tours as an alternative to their traditional work in the logging industry. You can do jungle treks on elephants, see wild orangutans and even help wash the elephants in the river! Tangkahan is a great example of people working to preserve the forest instead of knocking it over to plant Oil Palm plantations.

stunning. great resolution, clarity. composition. what camera do you use? And on a more practical note, where did you stay while in Tangkahan? Did you do full days/nights trek with elephants or short trip? We're seriously contemplating a last minute jaunt out there in a months time. thanks!

Sorry for the delay. I shot it on a Panasonic D910 broadcast camera. It's only SD uprezzed to HD. It was only short visit for filming. It is a beautiful place and the people are so friendly. Off the beaten track (literally!) and well worth it. Enjoy.

I wish our government will pay more attention to the road fixing to Tangkahan..because it is seriously a very potential tourist attraction in Indonesia. DIamond in the rough for this time around, but surely will shine..
