The Raven Free Orchestra led by John Gruntfest took place on August 30, 2009 at the Alameda Elks Lodge in Alameda, California. Participants came from all over the country for the all day event. Jan Labate, alto sax, brought her Canon Elura 2 to the orchestra to record some of the event and realizing she could not play and record handed the camera off to her friend, Deirdre Tabler-Miller. Deirdre shot the footage which consists of eighteen minutes of the afternoon orchestra. The footage was then given to Jans friend, Minna Hertel, who created the video and the photo collage.
The footage contains One Man Band and the opening section of the afternoon RFO. It captures the spirit and energy of the day which was very special. Great thanks go to all the musicians, dancers, family, and friends who participated. Special thanks also go the artists whose works made the creation of the Great House possible;
First Nations' Artists:
David Boxley
Robert Davidson
Jack Hudson
Reg Davidson
Kananginak
Bay Area Sculptor Joseph Slusky whose Mon Koto sculpture was the energy center of the event.
