Ferrovial Agroman has completed the refurbishment of a section of the M50, the C-shaped ring road that circles Dublin. The contract was awarded in 2005 and has served to strengthen the company's presence in Ireland.
The M50 is one of the busiest motorways on the island, with complicated intersections to the national primary routes that run from the capital and on to the rest of the country.
One of the busiest links, the N7, has become symbolical of the work. It has an arched bridge 62 meters in length, with 60 meters between the support structures. The bridge was first constructed on a platform, and once prepared, moved in its entirety to its final position on the N7. This required the use of special equipment to raise it on to its permanent supports, and the operation was conducted in just one night to minimize disruption to local traffic.
With projects such as the M50, Ferrovial Agromán demonstrates its international vocation. Construction activity outside of Spain already accounts for over 40% of the companys backlog which stands at €8.76bn.
