Utah's population of beaver has recovered since the days when they were trapped by mountain men, but some people wonder if moving beaver to traditional habitat may help deal with drought.

  • Excruciatingly boring video. No passsion. ; (

  • Excellent video. Thanks! Most important info about the hydrograph, because it is the flood peaks that do the damage. Beaver dams can lower the flood amplitude.

  • But if they are so great, then whats the beef with hunting them and saying they create chaos, these guys said nothing of them causing chaos and damage....they never complained.

  • At 3:18 that dam looks like huge work on behalf of the Beaver!

  • Beavers control the flow of vast amounts of energy & material. They create a shifting mosaic of moist & dry meadows, wet forests, marshes, bogs, streams, & open water that change the climate, nutrient flow, vegetation, wildlife, hydrology, & even geology of entire watersheds.

  • beavers will take over the earth one day

  • Great video! For more on historical beaver trapping, visit my videos by clicking on my name...

  • Great video thanks for covering this piece. By the way how do vital waterway and boats go together? It is humans that have truly done the most damage to every habitat in the pursuit of our greed.

  • As a former 4th grade teacher, just wanted to let you know that beaver hats were worn by fashionable men, not women. The fur was cut down to a low nap, and covered the top hats that men wore in the 1800's to the 1830's. Using fur eventually went out of fashion, with silk replacing the desired material. I really enjoyed seeing these beaver dams and your discussion of their place in a healthy ecosystem.
