How is San Antonio in the eastern conference? Aren't they in the western conference?

The Spurs were in the East from the ABA-NBA merger in 1976 to 1980, when the Dallas Mavericks joined the NBA. The Houston Rockets were also in the East. Some East teams today were in the West back then like the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls.
