Picked this up from sunnking earlier this week for $50, they claimed it didn't power up but I guess they didn't wait long enough for the delay to elapse. One of the fans had eaten through some wires so I spliced those back together. The LCD screen is cracked but most of it still works.
It contains four Quantum DLT-IV tape drives, tape storage, and a robotics system to manipulate the tape cartridges. I hope to get it running with my computer in the next few weeks.
What backup software do you use to manage this?

Identical to the ATL P1000 series. The firmware for the LCD is SUN branded but I wouldn't be surprised if everything else was identical!

Compared to some other tape libraries, the servo motor on this one sounds cute.

It probably wouldn't cost much to replace the LCD...

Weren't those things designed by EMC?

Sounds like it needs some lubing of rails and such... maybe it's just me. It's loud as hell. Neat piece of equipment though.

Nice demo of stepper motors and speed ramping
Quite impressive at around 50GB per tape or something.
I think we already take things like Blu Ray burners for granted nowadays, 'cos that thing must have cost a fortune when it was new!
