There is a noise that I can hear between 1000 and 1500 rpm's and I can't tell if it's a weak lifter or a bad rod bearing. I've been told it's just lifters but I'm paranoid and I'm thinkin' it's a rod knockin :\ comments please

  • I'm rebuilding the motor now. When I was checking the lifters, the lifter for the #2 exhaust valve was collapsed.

  • my 4.0 ranger makes that noise. Let me know if you find the source plz!

  • I'm trying man, I'm gonna check the torque on the rocker arms soon and if they are fine, I'm gonna check the lifters.

  • my 93 mercury cougar 3.8l v6 is doing that but much louder and its a lifter were guessing also could be a lose rod to cause i used to mess around and drift it

  • I have the exact same car V6 95 Mustang with the same problem wish i had the cash to rebuild the engine

  • Could be the radiator

  • It's a V6, that's your problem. lol

  • sounds alot like mine, good to hear that it was a lifter. That's what im hoping mine is, next weekend ill be getting greasy/dirty....

  • @kohldstayr so that's all it was how much did that cost?

  • @rd95stang is that the same problem? but that one i have is a 4.6 tho? idk if is the same thing

  • my engine started to make a soud similar to this, it sounds ok at idle but gets a little loud around 2000 rpm. i wonder if its the same problem...

  • time chain. i can tell becuase it isnt continues, and its when ur idling down u can hear it real nice. like other guy said, u got rollers, i highly dout its a lifter. more likely a valve. but my 240sx did the same thing, so i took it apart. and saw the timechain guide was just ate right up. i mean chewed apart. replaced the timing shit, and vwalla! no more noise, 6 months later, blew a head gasket. i hate that car (not a tuner kid, just machanic who fixes shit cars) so tak the v cover off and c.
