We camped under large cottonwood trees in the Cottonwood Campgound near the beautiful ancient river-carved canyon of Canyon de Chelly. Hungry stray dogs became our short-lived friends until they moved on for better pickings at nearby campsites.

Located in Northeastern Arizona, Canyon de Chelly is one of the longest inhabited landscapes in North America. It sustains a living community of Navajo people who are connected to an area of great historical and spiritual significance.

The monument preserves remarkable ruins of the Ancient Pueblo Peoples and Navajo - including distinctive architecture, artifacts, and rock imagery.

Truly a wonderful experience and visit we will not forget.
