Yes. You have to do the math yourself before even going to Lindblum. Just make sure that you have at least 1260 to get a Steeple Hat and for the synthesis fee.

Quetion: how do i make all this gil in a level one challenge? Does the money you get from bosses sufice or you need to steal and sell stuff?

Both. If boss doesn't give enough, steal Ether/Phoenix Pinoin and sell them
