My first AMV based on the Utena movie, Adolescence Apocolypse.

The song choice, Bonnie Tyler's "I Need a Hero", was made for this film. I wanted to take it from Anthy's POV and show her growth from a passive woman who is used and abused by the men around her, to being gradually awoken from her malaise by the arrival of Utena, then to having to empower herself in order to find the hero that was snatched from her. By overcoming the influence of her abusive brother in the final quarter of the video, she proves herself worthy of being her own hero, and she is reunited with Utena.

As fans of the movie and series may reailse, I have rewritten the film to my own ends. ;) I think my order of things better, lol. I also cut out all the stuff about magic, and kept the rest of the symbolism for the dyanamic (and, granted, slightly phallic) empowerment of Anthy's car chase where she comes into her own. So now it's an action adventure love-story. :3

  • I wish the movie ending was like that to the manga movie ending. But the car is much more fun?? LOL! Good job! ^^

  • Mmmm, yummy automobile sybolismmm...

  • Utena doesn't look the same with short hair. Not to mention, Anthy doesn't look the same without her glasses. Nonetheless, great stuff.

  • Yeah, the movie did some interesting things with promoting the hidden parts of their perosonalities and emphasising them with their looks. I have to say that, on prolonge exposure, I like Movie Anthy's look better.

  • well with all of the "I am Ms. Utena's bride." talk and the homosexual teasings, they needed some kind of Phalic representation. and thus the car!!

  • Proves once again: The handsome hero always gets the beautiful woman! 5+ FAVO

  • It's a great clip, I don't know this

anime much but I must say it is a cool video.

    BRAVO!!!:)

  • Wow. I'll admit I know nothing about Utena, but I'm still impressed. For the clips you've chosen, the song seems to fit really well.

    Kudos!
