Ok if 80% viet words are chinese, then if i say " Có một thằng Tàu đang nhìn tôi ĩa" Its 8 words and how my worlds do you understand. There are at least 3 verbs,3 nouns in my sentence and none of them are Han-Viet words. I tell you what they mean. Có(there is) một(one) thằng Tàu(Chinese guy) đang nhìn tôi(watching me) ĩa(taking a shit).

@pipopipo96 vietnamese is so systematic that it makes me doubt that there was only one way influence. For example Cantonese vs Vietnamese...such as S,X vs T , Tx,Ch vs Th.., ,.T vs D. , Y vs Nh..for example Tung Xay(east, west) vs Đông Tây, Tai Xiu (Big,small) vs Đại Tiểu...Xau Yap( to take in, income) vs Thu Nhập . Xiu( smile) becomes Tiếu means funny in vietnamese. most other sounds are the same..and the vowels sound do not change..

However the systematic similarities between cantonese and

@pipopipo96 i know it was bad. It was intended. Anywho...i agree the vietnamese language has quite a percentage of borrowed Chinese words. Its the obvious evidence of almost 1000 years being in the same union with China. I also need to mention most of these words are cantonese base. It makes sense since north vietnam was in the ame administrative zone with QuangDong and QuangXi. I also happens to know some cantonese and i am sure of what i say about vietnamese and cantonese

@wassupmanG Yes, I agree, but the Vietnamese people originated in Southern China and Northern Vietnam, then migrated down.
