This oratorio, labelled a "sacrum militare oratorium," was composed in Venice in 1716, and is the only one of four composed by Vivaldi to survive. Written, of course, when the "red priest" was in charge of music at the girls' orphanage of Ospedale della Pietà, it is a remarkable testimony to the wealth of talent and training available in this large institution. To recreate the impact of the first Pietà performance for this recording, women sing all the roles along with an all-woman chorus.

It uses the story of the Judith from the Old Testament and her victory over the forces of King Nebuchadnezzar. In telling this story, Vivaldi structured the work for maximum dramatic impact and this comes closer to the spirit of opera than other baroque oratorios.

I was curious why this video was listed among the "Related Videos" for my video of three young barn swallows. I discovered it's the word 'hirundo' that is in the lyrics of this aria. The Latin name for a barn swallow (which I listed in the tags) is 'hirundo rustica'.

I do not understand how Vivaldi is so badly appreciated by composers and audience...Stravinsky considered Vivaldi 'a dull fellow'.

Vivaldi was a pioneer of orchestral music....even the great Bach studied and rearranged his music

@darkvoid132 Vivaldi and every other great composer would likely find metal curious at best, though nothing of value. If the contemporaries of Schumann, for example, found his music to be questionable, they would find metal entirely vile.

There are few similarities to this music and your metal music, to be honest. Basically all metal lacks the true tonal complexity of the music of the past, not to mention anything of developmental, contrapuntal, harmonic, or intellectual value.

Non è giusto il tempo,l'andamento dell' ars-tesi,l equilibrio sonoro dell'orchestra e il gusto degli interpreti è molto " enfatizzato" da suoni languidi e metronomicamente scontati!
