@happynotnormal In addition They carry an Arnold truncheon which is a solid single piece baton. CS into crowds is not a favoured tactic, the use of horses and dogs is considered preferable. Then AEP which are plastic baton rounds.

@2008kissarmy This the bill, it isn't real so you can't see what they would normally wear. It varies from force to force but in the Met, the force portrayed by The Bill, They would wear generally a tracksuit or similar, over which kevlar pads are worn as well as body armour which UK police normally wear. Then the jump suit goes on over the top. The rational being that it is fire retardant and the rest isn't so it stops it catching alight. Each officer carries CS spray (tear gas).

how come Uk police riot gear is just a jumpsuit a riot helmet, baton and a crap round shied
and the USA police riot gear is just well class with they body armor, helmet. baton and a full body shield, grander luncher with tear gas, face mask there just well equip unlike us the UK

@kellychippy : yeah i was sure white was for the bhajis.....!

Using this many officers seems unlikely. If the protestors are coragous enough to run forward, there are not enough shields to defend the line. In addition, the dudes on the balcony would be lethal.

What was that bit at the end about? I know that a person who is telling the truth WILL add details to their statement, as they remember more stuff. A statement that stays exactly the same is a rehearsed one.

@2008kissarmy Because the British government dont want to be accused by the do-gooders from all walks of life, being called "a paramilitary police force",claiming that riot-shotguns(with cs gas rounds:-)pepperball launchers, etc will turn the bobby into a soldier. They were even wary of authorising plastic bullets, during the riots. If water cannons were used then the PM,Thereasa May&other involved MPs would face questioning by do-gooders,even if it was right to use them. Elections too.
