Doctor Daniel Pine introduces the diathesis-stress model for anxiety and depression. The model posits that stress combines with inherited factors to produce disorder.
@xEternalx Thank you, I only recently learnt that the disorder was genetically predisposed. I have subsequently had to write a paper on the subject and understand it much much more. I found the studies on premorbid development particularly interesting when compared to bipolar affective disorder development.
Worthwhile question.I think what happens is essentially, the genetic component or the diathesis stays the same. The amount does not change much. hence, something like the predisposition for schizophrenia is not reversible. On the other hand, environment can be controlled. One can minimize the stress and lead to lower risk of getting the disorder.
Ok, at this point the issue i'm having only became noticable to me throught the video's I have been watching. If we claim that people have both a genetic threshold and personal resilliance of stress. If one can essentially 'have' schizophrenia but the point at which it becomes aparent has not been reached yet then potentially we can never develop schizophrenia? And if we can have it but never develop it, could it be completely reversable?
