Fusion is not like particle science: the LHC has merit because the necessity of such a big experiment has been established, ITER, on the contrary, is premature. With current technology, it is clear that Tokamak fusion costs will never offset the benefits, it is rhetoric to say that this will power the impoverished because no developing nation will be able to afford this technology.
