Breakout 2000 for the Atari Jaguar is based on the old game Breakout that we all know and love.
It's been enhanced into more of a 3D-ish mode, which is pretty cool.
The Breakout Classic mode that is included is lacking, in my opinion, but that's ok, since I really just want to play 2000.
Telegames (I believe) released this as well as a few others to gauge interest and viability in more Jaguar games that they either had finished or close-to, however, the response was not enough for Telegames to continue production on the other unreleased games :-(

  • Does the perspective ever change? It looks like a huge pain in the ass like that.

  • No, but it's really not bad at all.

  • I tried to make a 3D breakout game for the iOS app store. According to Atari, I breached their copyrights. :( It was an awesome game but you can't have it after this.

  • Reminds me of all those "alawar" variations on the arkanoid/breakout concept... hyperball, magicball, aquaball, roboball, strikeball, ..... there were like a dozen of them.

I think the SNES version had the best control scheme for a console gamepad: if you pressed one of the top L / R buttons, the board would move twice faster, and both at the same time, 4 times faster. (still doesn't beat using a mouse, though)

  • The top half of the screen is used in two player mode

  • This looks cool--Do the board layouts ever change though?

  • I'm currently seeking this game for my expanding Jaguar collection… it's nice that Telegames picked this up and released it… looking forward to playing this when I realize it!

  • they managed to make 70% of the screen useless

  • Great game, I helped testing on it. VERY fun in two player mode - one player is on top, one is on bottom. When you get the ball to the back, it rolls either to the top or bottom of the screen. I keep telling Mario to port this to the iPhone or WiiWare!

  • What's the song from the breakout for the ps1... Isn't it like van halen or something
