I get very confused re. why an *arrest* record is ever allowed to be considered grounds for denial of firearms licensing, etc. Shouldn't the pertinent thing be one's *CONVICTION* record? Anyone can be arrested for almost any reason. I realize there is an ocean of difference between what the law *should* be and what it actually is, but this is one thing that has always really burned my ass. To my thinking, arrest records shouldn't count for shit unless there is a conviction to go with that record

@FlyingPancreas They usually only count convictions but if you tell someone you were arrested (human nature) they AUTOMATICALLY think you're guilty, especially when it's for "assault weapon possesion" the judges letter just covers your ass.

@FlyingPancreas In NY, the shithole me and Vinny live in, it goes by ARREST. NOT CONVICTION. Even if you forget to mention an arrest because nothing came of it (not even a ticket), on your application for a pistol permit it can be an instant denial.

@Speedogg138 I live in the same shithole, & I'm familiar with the process. It is completely fucktarded. I got fined in NJ about a million years ago for a moving violation, paid the fine, then changed residence right after paying it. Found out 10 years later NJ had issued a bench warrant for me for an *unpaid* fine, even though they had a record of payment. I had to go thru all kinds of shit to get a letter of disposition from the NJ court in order to get my NY permits... Fucking annoying.
