  • @razvaNazdravan

ya, because the United States just loves that Opium. Cut and run and The Taliban will implement a world class education system.

  • You don't live in Afghanistan so don't judge them based on their burka. They have no money, opportunity and hope to get out of that hell. Have you ever put yourself in their shoes to feel if they even believe in Islam or not? Have you ever thought what if you were born in Kabul? Science demonstrates the creation of this universe, but has it ever come to your mind why everyone opens his/her eyes to this world containing conscious. There must be someone up there who organizes everything.

  • You are My FUCKING HERO!

  • I invite anyone who finds this compelling to goggle and read this article: Philosophy: Who needs it?. Reason has had many passionate advocates and the author of this piece is one of them.

  • @ericpao81 Atheists (even liberal atheists) are probably too diverse a group for you too speak for all of them. Some would probably not want the end of all religion, for whatever reason. Some would probably also not agree that its "our" place to enlighten anyone. I probably would want the end of superstition, but it's a little strange to hear you speak for everyone as if atheism were a cult or had a doctrine.

  • @freesk8 I doubt that Harris was saying that burqas were literally the only and direct cause of poverty. It's only one example/aspect of the problem. I think his general point is that oppressing and limiting the productivity of 1/2 the country's population has a real impact on poverty, health, and living standards. This is supported by research that shows that the most effective method of combatting poverty-related problems (e.g. disease) is the education of women.

  • I like Harris, and generally agree with him, especially his atheism,

    BUT

The main reason that infant and maternal mortality is so high in Muslim nations like Afghanistan is not that they force their women to wear burquas. It is because the govt violates the rights to property and entrepreneurship of the people. If they allowed the free market to work, the mortality rate would plummet as wealth was created, even if they all wore stupid headgear.

  • stop stealing their resources and let thm invest in a healthy education and things will better themselves.

  • @sylviabombs15 Hell yes, this man is brilliant. He's a living legend. Up there with the greatest thinkers in history.
