@MrRayz21 with the problem set up, you use the FOIL method, so it would look like :

3x+12=2(x+12)-1 which gives you

3x+12=2x+24-1 (then)

3x+12=2x+23 then:

-2x -2x

x+12=23

get x by itself by subtracting 12 from both sides, you get 11. Since mary is 3x. Mary is 33.
