www.youtube.com/yuckypeas Does a particular Bible verse discourage you? Have you ever gone through a hard time, read the Bible, and then felt more condemned than encouraged?

Here, I offer some thoughts on what to do in this situation based on the temptation of Christ as recorded in Matthew chapter four.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and feedback. Do you think this interpretation is correct? What do you do when scripture hurts? What are some Godly thoughts that encourage you?

Note:

After I posted this, I caught something as I rewatched -- I said that we aren't justified through faith. That's not quite what I meant. To clarify, before someone else catches it:

Galatians 3:7-9 Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. The Scripture foresaw that_God would justify the Gentiles by faith,_and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you." So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

Ephesians 2:7-9 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by _grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves_ it is the gift of God;not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

My point was that faith by itself is meaningless. It's what we have faith _in_ that justifies us.

  • From birth to Glory...it is a journey.

We are called to follow Jesus, however God understands our weaknesses and extends to us His most amazing Love and Mercy when we fall short. When we use Perfection as the example to attain towards...we always fall short because of being in this veil of flesh.

Paul wrote about it in Romans where he had to die to himself daily...

It seems the closer we get to the Lord...the less we think of ourselves becoming more dependant on Him!

  • I was blessed by your thoughts. I think they were good to share indeed. I would only have one caution I thought of...we should take care that we aren't too quick to brush off the potential that it may be the Holy Spirit's conviction, rather than a taunt of Satan. Prayer for discernment is paramount of course. I liked your comment about dwelling on the things of God and His goodness, rather than giving glory to our sin and faults.
