ROME - Italy's Welfare Minister Cries While Announcing Austerity Sacrifices. The government unveiled a package of painful austerity measures on Sunday night -- so painful, indeed, that one of the ministers began to weep as she explained them to the press.
Announcing that all but the lowest pensions would be frozen next year, the welfare minister, Elsa Fornero was unable to say the word "sacrifices" and, brushing tears from her eyes, brought her presentation to an abrupt close.

  • As long as there are people like this, in this country.. there is hope. We survived many challenges in our 3000 years old history, but our people are still here, our language is still here, our culture is still here. We will survive this, if we fight togheter, if we change this political class.. i'm ready for such sacrifices. Viva l'Italia.

  • @godzilla1348 Solidarity? There is no such thing, it is a commercial and political agreement. A weaker currency makes Germany more competitive as an exporter country and the current political negotiations are all being held according to Germany's own convenience in many ways. They are not buying it cheap, but they are BUYING, not giving anything as a gift. Anyway, don't take me wrong, I don't think there is anything wrong about it. But Merkel is not being "generous", trust me.
