Opening the Lunch Box, Hearing Part 1 of 4

On November 14, 2006, California State Senator Tom Torlakson convened a hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Schools and Community to examine school meal programs in California.

The hearing, "Opening the Lunch Box: California's Role in Serving Healthy School Meals" was hosted by Hidalgo Elementary School in Fresno, California.

The hearing brought together experts and practitioners to shed light on the challenges schools face in providing not just well-balanced, but appealing meals for our kids. The hearing focused specifically on the complex, often unappreciated school meal programs and potential ways in which the state can help kids have better meals available to them on campus
