A crew from Lincoln Tree & Landscape cut down most of the 150-year-old tree on the afternoon of Aug. 13, 2009. The owner of the tree, located on the property at 86 Van Ness Road, cut it down to make way for a new home he intends to build on the site after knocking down the one that is currently there. Neighborhood residents objected to cutting down the tree, which hung over Payson Park, but the owner had the legal right to take it down.
