I wonder if that 2049 computer's really gonna happen in 2049. That's scary as hell. The computing process of the entire human race. How could you calculate the computing power of the entire human race?
I agree with shrunken. In fact, I'll take it a step further and say that with all this technology, we as a species still believe in fairy tales (God) and put those fairy tales before our own families and our own species! Hence the problems in this world.
And yet with all this fantastic technological progress, humanity still hasn't really developed mentally all that much. We're still as violent, ignorant and submissive to those in power as we were 500 years ago.
All that technology has done is increased this culture and potential for misuse of power!
As for a supercomputer out doing the human brain.. so what? It still won't be conscious, it will still just be a fucking machine with no soul governed by people with no soul
yeah, i was a little out of line with that sheep comment...
...but nature has always balanced overpopulation with a crash. if humanity doesn't voluntarily put a cap on our population through reduced birthrate, nature will find some other way, and it probably won't be pretty.
btw, i consider america to be on the verge of overpopulation too.
Well the fellows of my generation had terrible public schools, teacher's unions, and zero motivation throughout their educational upbringing. I'm majored in math and graduate-prep economics, and 40% of my class is non-Americans. It saddens me that we have lost and disenfranchised an entire generation of Americans who will never succeed in the technology and mathematical fields that this world is evolving around.
I pray for the future of the US. May the educational system be fixed soon.
