What was the root of her mental illness? Was she abusing of some substances or it was because she was not sleeping and eating properly "during the periods of the complition and the publication of her novels"? Is so hard to understand how can a genius think well and write great bookds but ends up her life into the waters...

In those days, if she had been born in another social class she would have been committed to a mental home soon after the early symptoms of her illness, and now we simply wouldn't have her novels.
