September 1941. On 25 August 1941, a mixed force of Canadian, British and Norwegian troops landed on the Norwegian islands of Spitzbergen, north of Norway. Although not occupied by the Germans, the islands served as a shipping base, source of coal and weather station for Nazi forces in the far north. In the process of the operation, some 370,000 tons of coal were destroyed, along with 225,000 gallons of oil, three wireless stations, and mining equipment.

  • I'm confused. Didn't the Brits occupy Spitzebergen during the war, and have a weather station there?

  • The allied guys in this movie sure take pride in blowing stuff up!

  • 2:41 Awesome shock wave.
