  • JH brought a mischievousness and twinkle to his performance ( ex. he really enjoys playing out the word "spool") whereas HP plays it much darker, and in fact the set is literally darker. Also, JH is lame, while HP is in a wheelchair, and ostensibly can not walk at all, so when he scatters his tapes to the floor my first thought was that he can't retrieve them. I don't know if that reading is more "Beckett"-y, but it is a bit starker. Interesting choices both. Next step is to read the original.

  • Considering Pinter was Beckett's protege, it is particularly interesting to see this version. Perhaps close to Beckett's famously specific intentions, or, perhaps just one good version among many others. I am to see John Hurt in two weeks, so I'll compare!

  • Well, this is the 3rd version of this play I'm watching, so far John Hurt's is my favorite. Pinter reminds me too much of an undertaker, and the other dude I watched was more like a cartoon.

  • He might just be even better at this than John Hurt.

  • I heard they are redoing it with van Diesel, Simon West is directing.

  • Brilliant!

  • thanks for posing this, i cant wait to watch it in full. i saw micheal gambon perform it last year, i wish it had been recorded but i doubt it!

  • Thank you for posting this.
