  • my grandfather "Tex" Milburn was in the 483rd and was a tail gunner too. He was in the Memmingen raid. He flew on the Bad Penny and the Mizpah. Still alive.

  • I used the tailgunners story and a radiomans to create a two hour independent film. It was low budget and entered in Sundance and The GI Film Festival in hopes of having the story produced for the Big Screen.

  • Was Henry Burlew also in the 8th Air Force earlier because I noticed it in the tags.

    In the video it says

483rd Bomb Group in the background so to fly 27 missions on B-17's out of Italy he was in the 15th Air Force 5th Bombardment Wing the same wing that my father was in (dad was in the 463rd BG).

  • No he was never in the 8th as far as I know. Smiley

  • My wife's father was a B17 pilot who flew out of Italy. We don't know the name of his plane or what Group he was with. His name was Theodore Staudt (Ted). I looked for him on on line registries, but no results.

  • my great uncle was a tail gunner in ww2 he was wounded by flak in the hand.

  • I know Henry Burlew, and i would like to say he is a hella MAN.Not only(and the others)did he fight for his country,he was very active in his community. He was involved in his children's lives and their rearing.Still to this day he goes to church on sundays, works in his yard and garden daliy. It's been my pleasure to learn about the good things there are in life, and to be a better person.GOD BLESS YOU HENRY BURLEW---AND ALL OTHER ARMED FORCES VET AND CURRENT MEN AND WOMEN.

  • @tjmilbu Respect for your grandfather.

  • @tjmilbu Wielki szacunek dla Twojego Dziadka Krzysztof from Poland.

  • And merlin immediately said, well, I blew the wing off an me-109, pretty wild huh? - He was really a great guy and sadly passed away a few years ago.

The thing ill never forget that he said was when we visited the local mall after the museum trip, Merlin and my dad were walking past a Victoria's secret, and Merlin says, "You know Brian, I don't think that Victoria has any secrets left!"

  • As a kid my dad was friends with Merlin Miller, a tailgunner from the Vicious Virgin, and I met him many times, we even visited his home in dugger, indiana...as a kid this incredibly nice short little guy seemed like a giant to me. I was awed by him, it blew my little mind just to be near him, I remember we were in the dayton ohio museum and I was nervous about asking him if he had shot down any airplanes, but my dad encouraged me to ask and when were strolling through the museum I dared to ask

  • God bless you guys for doing that Veteran's History Project... keep it up as long as you can.
