  • Hello first off all I think that this ghettoblaster rock's. But I have question, what's the difference between this magnavox D8443 and Philips D8444?

  • thanks this unit is awesome, and im not sure of the difference but maybe yours is an upgraded version of mine, also I think phillips is part of magnavox, i dunno

  • hey man i have a silver one just like this one and all of a sudden one day the speakers stopped working and the cassette player won't play nothing

    could u help me out?

  • i dunno maybe the PS crapped out or something, it doeant do anything the radio doesnt even work

  • Most likely the belts on the tape player are stretched. This is a common failure item on older tape players.

The motor spins and the belt connects the flywheel on the tape mechanism to the motor.

As for AC hum dried out caps are always the cause.

  • but its an 80s radio do they still suffer the same effect like the tube caps do? well this one may be easier to recap but i dunno but when i turn up the volume with the bass all the way up the FM stereo and power LEDs they dim and flicker with the music like the radio amps are not getting enough juice, can i just replace the power supply unit if it steps the AC down to whatever DC 12 volts and change the PS with a new one maybe i dunno

  • scratch that the anntena is broken off (can be reatached)

  • i have one just like this in perfect condition

  • I've got the Phillips D8444, its exactly the same, Philips acquired Magnavox's consumer electronics division in 1974. I think the Magnavox brand continued to be used in the US and Phillips in the UK.

  • you should have grabbed it and get into restoring of it you should talk to the youtuber allamericanfiveradio he has repaired and fixes rigs like that
