I think the story is:I think the guy was deciding what to do with his life. He was depressed because he had no more hope. I think he had a brain operation (Thus the stitches on his head). Maybe he thought he was dying or going to die. But I think he liked the girl aswell. So he gives the gloves as a reminder of him. In case he does die. But he didn't, but he regretted not keeping the girl thus he goes back to the beach hoping he would find her there. I think the clock represents time change.

why I think the girl feeling reminiscence bcz the girl wears the gloves that the guy gave her and wearing the same clothes (red), and the reason the guy gave her the gloves before maybe bcz the weather was so windy, that's why the guy gave her his gloves.. that's my guess.. lol pls do correct me if I'm wrong >_<
